Hampton Designer Showhouse: The Designer Perspective

At Home in the Hamptons  with Traditional Home and Prince of Scots

Come celebrate a  Summer of Fashion and Style with Prince of Scots at the Hampton Designer Showhouse with Traditional Home Magazine.  The Showhouse is the best of the best of interior design in America’s number one luxury market.  Join us on a series of interview to get the designers perspective on the Hampton Designer Showhouse.  Prince of Scots will take you behind the scenes to meet the designers, learn about the  inspiration, learn what they love about the Hamptons, and how Prince of Scots fits in to the designers Modern Luxury Lifestyle.

The First of the Series begins with Gil Walsh Interiors of West Palm Beach and Martha’s Vineyard.  Gil Walsh brings a unique vision to the Hamptons with a tribute to Betty Sherrill.  What a fitting way to begin a chat on Interior Design in the Hamptons!

  1. What do you love most about being an interior designer for The Hampton Designer Showhouse?  I loved working in a totally new location… And getting to know the local merchants… Especially the antiques dealers.
  1. Describe your project in the showhouse and what inspired your design?  When we learned of Betty Sherrill’s death, we were moved to create a tribute to this great lady of interior design. Without her, so many of us, especially women designers, wouldn’t have careers, not to mention our own businesses.

  1. How did the products from Prince of Scots compliment your design vision? The Betty Sherrill/McMillen style of classical decorating is all about artful layering. We needed those wonderful, extra touches.

  1. What was your normal day like preparing for the showhouse? Coffee… Early and often.

  1. How did the luxury lifestyle of the Hamptons Influence your design direction? Our practice is based in Palm Beach, with a satellite office in Martha’s Vineyard. We are comfortable working with clients used to the very best of the best.

  1. The Hamptons are a known world class vacation destination? Which Hampton is your favorite and why? Each village had its own distinct personality. I loved the traditional feel of Southampton, the charming scale of Watermill, the lyrical sensibilities of Bridgehampton and the energy of East Hampton. But Sag Harbor, for me, felt the most familiar. It’s all about being so connected with the boats… I’m a sucker for anything nautical.

  1. What is your favorite hang out in the Hamptons? We loved Dockside in Sag Harbor. I think we closed it down one night!

  2. As a designer, you must have a favorite image of a project or design in your portfolio, what is your favorite and why? Definitely the shot looking into this sunny little study… It truly reveals my love of chairs. They’re everywhere you look!
