The third interview in the series is a chat with Melanie Roy of Melanie Roy Design. Melanie is located in Manhattan’s Fashionable East Side and loves to relax in the Hamptons. 1. What do you love most about being an interior designer for The Hampton Designer Showhouse? It is so much fun to work with all of the talented designers and sponsors to put present a beautiful home for the public which is all for a good cause. I love to design welcoming spaces that are sophisticated and functional.
2. Describe your project in the showhouse and what inspired your design? Our firm, which specializes in stylish family friendly design, has created a mudroom with a nautical aesthetic inspired by one of the East Ends greatest attractions, its beautiful beaches.

3. How did the products from Prince of Scots complement your design vision? We used their gorgeous Spiaggia Cabana Beach towels in red and navy. A luxurious cashmere throw from Southampton Home using Ermenegildo Zegna fabric and red and white floral Pull-in flip-flops that completed our be achy look.
4. What was your normal day like preparing for the showhouse? Very exciting! Putting together a dream mudroom in a beautiful home in the Hampton was so much fun. Shopping for all of the perfect items to create a beautiful space that is elegant and functional.

5. How did the luxury lifestyle of the Hamptons Influence your design direction? The mudroom was inspired by the East End’s beautiful beaches. We used the coloration of sea and sand by mixing various shades of blue and taupe in the rugs, fabrics and accessories. We dispelled three Barry Mcgee surfboards and a gorgeous rug from Stark Carpet

6. The Hamptons are a known world-class vacation destination? Which Hampton is your favorite and why? I love all of the towns in the Hamptons. They each have their own personality and offer something totally different and special. They are all beautiful and unique.

7. What is your favorite hang out in the Hamptons? The beach and Sagg Pond! Nothing is better that spending a great day at the beach with your family.

8. As a designer, you must have a favorite image of a project or design in your portfolio, what is your favorite and why? The mudroom at the Hampton Designer Showhouse if my favorite right now. I love to design welcoming, functional spaces for families.
